Institutional Advancement News

With the spring semester over and the 2010 graduation ceremonies behind us, one may think the Oblate School of Theology campus would be nearly empty and very quiet during the summer. But that isn’t the case at all. Summer session classes are in full swing. The women in the second cohort of the Sophia Program are here studying hard, working toward their degrees, and staying at the Pat Guidon Center. The Oblate Musical Camp brought high school students to Oblate Hill while they worked on their fully staged performance of Jesus Christ Superstar, which was presented in the Lourdes Grotto June 19. OST’s annual Summer Institute, featuring eminent Protestant Old Testament scholar Walter Brueggemann as the main keynote speaker, welcomed many from the community to our beautiful campus the last week of June. We have been so pleased to see lots of new faces around campus and to have so many familiar faces return to the School.

As I walk to and from daily Mass at the St. Joseph Chapel, I am reminded that every part of the School - the buildings, the grounds, the chapels, shrines, gardens and sculptures - exists because of those whose generosity made it possible. We are most grateful to our benefactors, living and deceased, and remember them at Mass and in our prayers.

Though still more than $10 million from our $30 million goal, our historic Building on Faith capital campaign continues in the hope that OST will be able to break ground on our new $7.5 million multi-use auditorium/classroom building and $1 million residence building this fall. The Building Committee is working closely with the architects to ensure our new buildings will be “green” in every way. If you have contributed to the campaign, thank you. If you haven’t and would like to know more about the important role you can play in OST’s future, please contact me. With your help and that of other generous donors, we will have two beautiful new buildings on our campus by next spring.

Looking ahead, an alumni/ae reunion and two very special fundraising events are planned for the fall. If you are an alumnus/a of OST, please save the evening of Monday, October 11, for the annual alumni/ae reunion at the Oblate Renewal Center. It is sure to be a fun evening of catching up with former classmates. We hope you will mark your calendar and plan to play in the annual Oblate Open golf tournament on Monday, November 8, at Oak Hills Country Club. You also won’t want to miss our annual 285 Benefit on Tuesday evening, November 16. The celebration will begin with a very special Mass at the Immaculate Conception Memorial Chapel, followed by a delicious buffet dinner, lively musical entertainment, door prize drawings, a mini-silent auction and a live auction at the Oblate Renewal Center. Mailings will be sent out this summer with information about each event. If you are not on our event mailing list and would like to be, please contact Yolanda Garcia at (210) 341-1366, Ext. 219 or yolanda@ost.edu.

If you haven’t ever been on our campus or it has been a while since you visited, we hope you will come by soon. You are always welcome.
